On Friday March 2, 2018 the Marion Police Department received information of a motor vehicle cash on Sugar Hill Road. Andrew Huskins who was riding on a 2003 Suziki Motorcycle, was traveling Sugar Hill Road near Jack Frost, when a 2002 Chevrolet Truck driven by Dustin Lawing crossed the center line and struck his vehicle head on.
The investigation completed by Officer Randy Caudill of the Marion Police Department, shows that after the crash, Lawing attempted to leave the scene in the 2002 Chevrolet. Lawing's vehicle came to rest on the property of 2416 Sugar Hill Road. Officers with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene and were attempting to place Lawing under arrest, due to him having outstanding warrants. Once Lawing was in custody, a search was conducted and Officer Caudill located narcotics and a firearm.
It was also determined during Officer Caudill's investigation, that the 2002 Chevrolet had been stolen from Lytle Mountain Road.
Lawing was arrested and charged for the following crimes by Officer Caudill of the Marion Police Department:
Possession of Methamphetamine
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Schedule 4 Controlled Substance
Criminal Damage to Property
Possession of Firearm by a Felon
Possession of Stolen Vehicle
Lawing was also charged with seven (7) warrants obtained by the McDowell County Sheriff's Office.
Huskins was transported to Mission Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
