The Citizens’ Police Academy program is designed to provide citizens with firsthand information on how the police department operates. The academy does this by giving citizens the opportunity of hands on experience in law enforcement. A lot of times people ask “why we do things the way we do” and the academy gives us the opportunity to answer these questions.
This is an eight week program that meets each Thursday from 6:00PM-8:00PM beginning in early spring of each year. A wide range of topics are covered in the program which include: Patrol Operations, Crime Prevention/Community watch, 911 Communications, Traffic Enforcement, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Defensive Driving and Firearms.
Interested applicants should watch this site during January each year for the Academy announcement. Once the announcement is posted interested citizens can contact the Marion Police Department (in person or by Phone). A police department employee will provide each interested person with further information regarding the Citizen Police Academy and an application to fill out.
