The elementary "core" curriculum is taught at the 5th grade level in an effort to reach children before they are faced with pressures to become involved with drugs and violence. This seventeen-week program allows for special relationships to develop between the children and D.A.R.E. Officer. At the conclusion of the program, students are recognized at a special culmination event that features entertaining guest speakers and attendance by parents and community dignitaries.
Middle School Continuation:
The middle school curriculum is taught in the 7th grade. This program places the D.A.R.E. Officer in the classroom everyday for ten days, talking on a more mature level about the same concepts introduced in the elementary D.A.R.E. This program is like a "booster shot" for the principles discussed in the 5th grade. Students complete this program by writing and acting out their own skit about resisting drugs and violence.
